Spotlight-Lesbian of the Month!!
So this months spotlight lesbian is Jay, Jay is an amazing artist, her work is beautiful. Jay is a first year college student at Moore college of Art and design in Philadelphia, majoring in fine arts. She’s technically 8 nationalities, but says “half black, half white” Jay is a lesbian and she told us that she’s been officially out for a few years now.
Inspiration
“My inspirations really just come from my life, a lot of my artwork deals with women and their body issues. My whole life I’ve struggled with body issues and I still am. Also for two years I spent my summers working as a mentor for females ages 8-21+ at a weight-loss camp, they are the product of a lot of my art. My dream is just to be traveling and making art everywhere I go.”
As for as her art goes she she says ” I have been doing art ever since I was handed a crayon, I didn’t get serious though about art until my senior year. Senior year I decided after spending my junior year in a sewing class instead of an art classthat I needed art in my day to feel complete”. So senior year Jay buckled down, took art classes all year at Fashion Institute of design on saturdays from 9-5 and spent 3 hours a day at school in art classes. Her favorite type of art is mixed media, saying ” something about the versatility and the uncertainty of the outcome intrigues me. I’m a huge fan of colors and that shows a lot in my art”.
Fears & Future Plans
“One of my biggest fears is fire, I feel silly admitting that but I’m a big Pyrophobic. Favorite rapper hands down in Tupac, for some reason that always shocks people. My favorite food is anything extra spicy I love love love Jerk chicken. As for future projects there aren’t any, right now I’m just focused on school but if something art related comes my way I will definitely consider pursuing it. Maybe during the summer while I have more time I will start painting Tshirts again and sell them, I’m also considering getting my cosmetology license for makeup. Time will tell.”
[picture perfect]–so many young girls are told on a daily basis what beauty is…and i feel that is unfair. everyone has their own idea of beauty no one should be influenced ..I want to “cut” into this stero-typical idea of beauty and let females know they are all beautiful no matter what.- Jay
